Australian Society Of Endodontology (WA Branch)
Welcome to the ASEWA
Please join us for a FREE online lecture by Dr Matthew Kinstler supported by the Australian Society of Endodontology (WA Branch) from 8 AM on Saturday 20th September.
About the Presenter:
Dr. Matthew Kinstler is originally from Glendale, Arizona. He graduated from Midwestern University School of Dental Medicine in 2016. Dr. Kinstler was the recipient of a Health Professions Scholarship through the United States Army. Dr. Kinstler practiced as a general dentist for 5 years before pursuing advanced education in endodontics in the US Army.
Dr. Kinstler completed his endodontics training in 2023 at Ft. Liberty endodontics residency under the guidance of Dr. Steve Delgado and Dr. James Phillips. He became the endodontics mentor at a 2-year AEGD following completion of residency training. He was then selected to become the assistant program director of the Ft. Liberty endodontics residency. Dr. Kinstler will serve in this role until 2026, then will take over as the director of the residency.
Dr. Kinstler is passionate about developing the next generation of endodontists and advancing the field through innovative educational initiatives and rigorous clinical standards. His 4 main passions in life are pre-bent hand files, patency, apical fireworks, and cone pumping. Some would call him an apical barbarian.
For many clinicians there may not be a more stressful situation in your daily clinical practice than a patient presenting with a symptomatic, calcified, maxillary anterior tooth. This specific case type can and does make clinicians question and second guess their clinical decision making and their own endodontic and restorative abilities. I am going to explain and show why most of this stress and fear is self-induced and unjustified. These cases can be predictably and conservatively treated without surgery or static and dynamic guides if some basic guidelines are followed.
Utilizing and understanding how to use pre-bent hand files is becoming a lost art. This lecture will explain why and how pre-bent hand files should be used on every case you treat, including when enhanced irrigation is utilized. Will discuss the “instrumentation playbook” to more consistently and predictably work up difficult canals.
The second part of the presentation will talk about length determination and how your EAL should actually be used for more accurate and consistent patency/obturation lengths. Introduction to paper-pointing canals and why it is the most accurate method for determining foramen location will also be discussed.
