What should I do with a case of an ankylosed central incisor that is submerging? Should I just add composite to maintain the incisal length? I heard something about decoration, what is that and when should it be done?

Generally decoronate when it is submerging more than 1.5 to 2mm. This occurs usually during growth spurt. If the tooth is ankylosed after the growth spurt, then often there is no need for decoronation.

The purpose is to maintain alveolar bone height so that implant can be done later. Don't add composite to compensate for height differential. The long term outcome will be horrendous.  See Barbara Malmgren for more information. She is the guru and the originator of the idea of decoronating tooth. Do a PubMed search. Apparently very easy to do. I love to do one someday, Ta!
